JAMMU, Nov 12: In connection with celebration of World Diabetes Day, falling on November 14, a Painting-cum-Poster competition was organized today by Janta Diabetes Care Centre Talab Tillo and JKFAS here at Kamla Palace.
About 20 prestigious schools of Jammu participated in the competition with more than 200 students putting their thoughts and concepts with the help of paint and brush on paper. The competition was held on the concepts—‘Know your disease and live longer’, ‘fast food kills fast’, ‘Control your diabetes to prevent complications’ and ‘Optimum calories, lesser the diabetes and insulin a friend in need’.
The paintings were judged by Jaspal Singh, Choudhary Sunder, Vijay Gupta and Sushil Dubey. In junior category, 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes were bagged by Diksha of Guru Nanak Public School, Komal Banhotra of Shangrilla Public School and Manish Kumar of SNS Higher Secondary School. Stuti Berda of Shangrilla Public School and Mitali Chargotra were given consolation prizes.
In senior category, Meenakshi Thakur of Shiksha Niketan School secured 1st position, Madhu of Army Public School, Akhnoor, got 2nd position while 3rd position was won by Shantnu Kumar. Surya Pratap Singh of Ranjit Memorial School and Himanshu Dogra of Shiksha Niketan School got consolation prizes.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, senior Diabetologist, Jammu, discussed about various aspects in the management of the disease and certain precautions and care that can help in the management of diabetes and prevent long term complications.
He further emphasized that by regular monitoring of blood sugar and consultations with doctor, long term complications like that of heart, kidney, brain, eyes and legs which are the cause of great morbidity and mortality can be checked.
