CUJ observes birth anniversary of Kalam as National Education Day

JAMMU, Nov 11: To commemorate birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, as National Education Day, the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) organized function at the Temporary Academic Block (TAB), Sainik Colony today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Devanand emphasized upon the need of imparting education, particularly the elementary education.
He quoted the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who, on this Independence Day, had said that there would not be any financial constraints in promoting education. The VC said that CUJ as a partner to this programme has adopted a school in village Bagla where the campus of the University is coming up.
He also asked the Registrar of the University to look in to the possibility of instituting merit-cum-means scholarship(s) for the students of CUJ. The function was attended by the deans of various schools, heads of the departments, faculty and students.
Earlier the Registrar of the University, Jit Singh said that the tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad would be to promote education in true spirit and the CUJ is seriously working for this.
The students and research scholars delivered lectures on the life of Azad in context of his contribution in freedom fight, and education to children and his stress on higher education. A documentary film was also screened.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr JN Baliya.
