NEW DELHI, Oct 26: At the initiative of Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Government of India has issued instructions to the Vice Chairman, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to sanction 100% interest waiver on dues / overdues in instalments of Kashmiri migrant allottees of one room flats in Delhi as a special case.
Union Minister of Urban Development, M. Venkaiah Naidu has, in a letter addressed to Dr. Jitendra Singh informed him that as a follow-up to his letter dated September 4, 2014, the Ministry of Urban Development had issued instructions to DDA vide letter dated October 14, 2014 to waive off 100% interest on dues of the Kashmiri migrants who were allotted one room flats under “Kashmiri Migrants Scheme”.
It may be recalled that under “Kashmiri Migrants Scheme”, allotments had been made by DDA for rehabilitation of displaced members of the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) community. From time to time, representatives of the community had been approaching the Government for relaxing the payment conditions in view of the fact that they were living in hand to mouth conditions through monthly financial assistance provided by the Government which made it difficult for them to pay the requisite instalments.
Soon after the taking over of the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre, Dr. Jitendra Singh personally took up this case with the Union Ministry of Urban Development and pleaded before M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister of Urban Development to treat this as a special case on humanitarian grounds.
Expressing his gratitude to M. Venkaiah Naidu for his personal interest and kind response, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the decision of 100% waiver on dues / overdues of Kashmiri migrant allottees of one room flats will go a long way in strengthening the chord of national integration through empowerment of the Kashmiri Pandit community which was forced to leave their homes and hearths in the Valley, simply because they chose to uphold the flag of nationalism in Kashmir.
