SRINAGAR, June 7: The 130th annual Urs of Hazrat Mian Nizam-Ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA) commenced today at Baba Nagri, Wangath, in Ganderbal district, drawing thousands of devotees on the opening day of the two-day religious congregation.
Pilgrims from various parts of J&K, besides several states across the country, gathered at the shrine to offer prayers and pay homage to the revered saint.
Shrine authorities said the influx of devotees remained steady throughout the day and was expected to increase further on Monday, when the Urs will conclude with a special Dua-e-Majlis.
The annual congregation is regarded as one of the largest religious gatherings in Kashmir and attracts followers from across the country and different districts of J&K, every year.
Those associated with the shrine management said elaborate arrangements had been made for accommodation, food and other essential facilities for devotees.
The shrine’s community kitchen remained operational round the clock, serving thousands of visitors.
Sajada Nasheen, Mian Altaf Ahmad, said all arrangements for the Urs were functioning smoothly.
“People have been arriving in large numbers. By the grace of Almighty Allah, all arrangements are in place and the congregation is progressing peacefully,” he said.
Members of the management committee said devotees from Rajouri, Poonch, Jammu, Punjab, Delhi and several other regions had reached Baba Nagri to participate in the annual event.
They expressed hope that this year’s attendance would surpass last year’s figure of more than 1.5 lakh devotees, citing the growing turnout witnessed in recent years.
