RKPAC seeks LG’s intervention in restoration of temple property

JAMMU, June 5: An emergency meeting of all the wings of the Rainawari Kashmiri Pandit Action Committee (RKPAC), Jammu, was convened today to discuss the alarming encroachment upon the Mandir property situated at Bagh Jogi Lanker, Rainawari, Srinagar, by the Kashmir Power Development Corporation (KPDC)/PDD.
The Committee expressed its grave concern and strong resentment over the installation of high-rise electric poles and the proposed erection of a step-down transformer on land belonging to the Mandir. The members observed that the property in question is a religious and community asset of the Kashmiri Pandit community and, after the migration of Kashmiri Pandits, such properties fall under the custodianship of the Deputy Commissioner of the respective districts.
The Committee found it highly intriguing and disturbing that such construction activity is being undertaken without the consent of the lawful custodian and despite the sensitive nature of the property. The members alleged that the local administration and KPDC/PDD appear to be acting in concert to facilitate the usurpation of Mandir land, thereby undermining the legal and religious rights of the displaced KPs.
The meeting urged Lieutenant Governor, Jammu & Kashmir, to immediately intervene and direct the concerned authorities to remove and dismantle all ongoing works at the site until the matter is thoroughly examined and the status of the property is duly protected. The administration was further requested to erect boundary wall around the Mandir land to prevent frequent encroachment by the mischievous elements.
The meeting was attended by the office bearers of RKPAC, BL Jalali president, Surinder Koul vice president, Anil Kachroo, treasurer, besides the Trustees of Jogeshwari Mandir Trust (Regd.) Ravinder Koul, KJ Bhat, Chashool Mahaldar, Benner Ji Hak, Dalip Handoo, Shiban Lal Kher and Virender Dembi.
