SRINAGAR, June 5: The police today seized four tractors and a tipper allegedly involved in illegal mining activities in Shopian district as part of its ongoing crackdown on unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.
A police spokesperson said that the vehicles were seized during separate operations conducted in the Borihalan and Sugan areas of the district. During routine patrolling, a police team from Police Station Heerpora intercepted and seized three tractors and one tipper allegedly involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without valid royalty documents, the spokesperson said.
According to the spokesperson, a case under FIR No. 47/2026 has been registered at Police Station Heerpora under relevant provisions of law and an investigation has been initiated.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Station Zainapora intercepted and seized another tractor allegedly involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals without the mandatory permission, the spokesperson said.
An FIR bearing No. 79/2026 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation is underway, the spokesperson added. “Police is committed to protecting the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining activities,” the spokesperson said.
