KATHUA, June 1: A strong protest was held at Shri Parshuram Chowk here, today against the continuously rising electricity bills, with residents from different parts of the town gathering to voice their anger and concern over the increasing financial burden on households.
The protesters raised slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) and the Government, accusing them of ignoring the hardships faced by common people. Demonstrators said that the steep increase in electricity bills has made it difficult for families to manage their monthly expenses, especially at a time when the cost of living and inflation continue to rise.
Addressing the gathering, several speakers highlighted that ordinary citizens are already struggling with rising prices of essential commodities, and the growing electricity charges have further added to their difficulties. They alleged that many consumers are receiving inflated bills, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
The protesters demanded immediate intervention from the authorities and called for a review of the recent electricity billing system. They urged the Government to provide relief to consumers, reduce the burden of excessive power charges, and ensure fair billing practices.
Participants warned that if their concerns are not addressed and adequate relief is not provided, they will be compelled to intensify their agitation in the coming days. They emphasized that access to affordable electricity is a basic necessity and that the interests of the common people should be protected.
The demonstration concluded with the protesters reiterating their demand for a rollback of excessive electricity bills and appealing to the Government to take concrete steps to provide justice and relief to the affected consumers.
