KARGIL, June 01: Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, chaired a review meeting of the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) to assess the performance of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the district.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), officials of the District Programme Management Unit (DPMU) and other concerned officers.
During the meeting, detailed presentations were made on women mobilization, institution building, financial inclusion, credit and marketing linkages, livelihood enhancement, convergence and programme outreach.
It was informed that NRLM has achieved 100 percent outreach in both Leh and Kargil districts, while 127 out of 145 villages in Kargil have been covered under various interventions. The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure coverage of the remaining villages at the earliest.
The meeting was informed that 1,185 SHGs have been formed in the district. Reviewing their performance, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized strengthening livelihood initiatives, including integrated farming and small enterprises.
He stressed effective utilization of seed capital and called for improved marketing of locally produced goods such as cakes, cookies and other SHG products.
The Annual Action Plan under NRLM was also reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner stressed practical skill development, field-level training and integrated awareness programmes in the form of fairs and melas to promote entrepreneurship and awareness of government schemes.
He further directed that SHG products be displayed in government offices and called for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to strengthen marketing, improve livelihoods and ensure sustainable growth of SHGs across the district.
