Rare ‘Aari Art’ exhibition inaugurated

JAMMU, May 29: Former Minister Ch. Lal Singh here today inaugurated an exhibition of ‘Aari Art on Paper’ by noted artist Ritu Gupta.
The inaugural function was also attended by noted writer O.P Vidyarthi and Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra, Jammu.
The five-day exhibition has been jointly organized by Kala Kendra Society, Jammu and Ritu Gupta’s Global Aari Paperwork.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Javaid Rahi said that the artworks created by Ritu Gupta using beads, paper and Aari embroidery techniques are highly innovative and unique.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest Ch. Lal Singh remarked that the art of Ritu Gupta is distinctive which reflects remarkable creativity and imagination.
He further emphasized that the techniques employed in these artworks should be taught to aspiring artists so that they can gain wider acceptance and market value. O.P Vidyarthi observed that the exhibition largely revolves around birds, motifs and the rich biodiversity of Jammu region.
In her address, Ritu Gupta said that it took nearly a year to create the collection on display. She also highlighted her work to promote and disseminate this unique art form through workshops and training programmes conducted across J&K.
Vote of thanks was presented by Arun Gupta, husband of the artist.
The exhibition will remain open for the public till June 5, from 11 am to 5 pm daily.
