JAMMU, May 29: BJP spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta said that the Supreme Court’s observations on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls have completely exposed the Congress party and its allies, while also underlining the importance of addressing demographic changes caused by illegal infiltration and unlawful settlements.
In a statement issued here today, Gaurav Gupta said the Congress and the Opposition ecosystem had attempted to create fear and confusion over the Special Intensive Revision process only to hide their own political failures and organisational weaknesses. He said the Supreme Court proceedings have effectively demolished the false narrative being spread against constitutional institutions and democratic processes.
Gupta said the issue of SIR cannot be viewed in isolation and must also be understood in the context of growing concerns regarding illegal infiltration and demographic imbalance in certain parts of the country. Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement on the constitution of a High-Level Committee on Demographic Changes, Gupta said the Centre has taken a historic and timely step to address “artificial demographic changes” caused by illegal immigration and other unnatural factors.
“The demographic structure of any nation directly impacts its security, resources, social stability and electoral integrity. Illegal infiltration and organised demographic manipulation cannot be ignored in a sovereign democracy,” Gupta said.
Welcoming the committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar, Gupta said the panel’s mandate to examine demographic shifts and recommend legal or administrative measures is a crucial step towards safeguarding national interests. He said the BJP Government under PM Modi is committed to identifying illegal infiltrators and ensuring that no anti-national network exploiting porous borders is allowed to threaten India’s internal security or democratic framework.
Gupta alleged that certain Opposition parties, particularly in border states, have encouraged appeasement politics and turned a blind eye towards infiltration for electoral gains. “The country needs a firm and transparent policy to tackle illegal immigration and demographic manipulation,” he added.
Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Gupta said instead of repeatedly attacking democratic institutions and using provocative language, the Congress leadership should introspect over its continuous electoral defeats and growing disconnect from the people.
