Srinagar, May 26: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today said it will ensure door-to-door collection of animal hides during Eid-ul-Adha and urged people not to dump them in drains, on roads, or near water bodies.

The corporation warned that improper disposal of hides could lead to choking of drains and environmental pollution.

SMC Commissioner Faz Lul Haseeb said the civic body has issued detailed directions and put in place a comprehensive mechanism for the collection and disposal of hides generated after sacrificial rituals across the city.

“We urge people not to throw animal hides into drains or on roads. These should be handed over to the SMC, following which we will dispose of them properly,” he said.

Haseeb warned that careless disposal of hides could severely affect the city’s drainage network and pollute water bodies.

He added that the SMC control room has been made fully functional to address public concerns and coordinate sanitation operations during Eid-ul-Adha.

Ward-wise details, including contact numbers of officials and designated vehicles, have already been shared to ensure timely collection and quick response to complaints.

The SMC also appealed to people to use the free hopper services for disposal of sacrificial waste and help maintain cleanliness and hygiene across Srinagar during the festival days.
