Calls for enhanced hospital security

Srinagar, May 26: The Medical Wing of the J&K Students Association (JKSA) today demanded immediate registration of an FIR over the alleged assault, harassment and intimidation of doctors and healthcare workers at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri.
The association also sought urgent intervention by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to strengthen hospital security across J&K.
The body alleged that unidentified persons forcibly entered the labour room and other sensitive patient-care areas of the hospital.
It stated that the intruders threatened doctors on duty, harassed female healthcare professionals, obstructed medical procedures and carried out unauthorized videography inside the facility.
Calling the incident “deeply disturbing, shameful and completely unacceptable,” JKSA Medical Wing president Dr. Wasim Khan said the intrusion into highly sensitive hospital areas exposed serious lapses in institutional security and administrative accountability.
The association said the alleged violation of patient privacy and dignity, particularly inside the labour room where women patients were in vulnerable conditions, amounted to a grave breach of ethics, law and humanity.
“Hospitals are spaces of care, compassion and healing, not places for hooliganism, threats, intimidation and chaos,” Dr. Khan said.
The JKSA Medical Wing extended solidarity with the Resident Doctors Association (RDA), junior doctors, senior residents, postgraduate medics and other healthcare workers protesting against the incident.
