Nepal govt committed to good governance and inclusive economic prosperity: PM Shah

KATHMANDU, May 26: Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday said that his government was committed to bringing real and tangible progress in the lives of the people of the Himalayan nation.

During a joint meeting with EU Ambassadors, PM Shah said that he has a deep realisation of the responsibility handed over to him by the people.

Shah assured the foreign envoys that there would be continuity of policy, although a new government was in place following the March 5 election, according to the Prime Minister’s secretariat.

“To be new does not mean to detach totally from the past. While ensuring Nepal’s policy orientation is clear, stable and predictable, we are fully committed to maintaining political stability and preservation of democratic norms and values,” PM’s secretariat quoted Shah as saying during the meeting with around two dozen diplomats from EU countries.

He said the government was committed to achieving sustainable development and promoting innovation by making the processes easier for foreign investment, as well as creating new opportunities for people by means of the global market and its benefits.

The Prime Minister also said that Nepal will continue adopting a pragmatic and balanced foreign policy under his government.

“Our relationship with our neighbours, development partners and friendly countries will be guided by the principle of mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared prosperity,” he said.

Noting that the EU has been assisting and showing goodwill for Nepal’s development and prosperity, he expressed gratitude to Nepal’s development partners and friendly countries.

On the occasion, he underscored that Nepal was working to collaborate for trade, investment, green energy, climate change, tourism and other major sectors and strengthen existing cooperation on these issues.

The EU Ambassadors said that they were ready to extend cooperation and also bring investment in different sectors for economic growth and prosperity. (PTI)
