JAMMU, May 22: Raising a strong voice over political and socio-economic concerns in Jammu and Kashmir, an emergency meeting of various Sikh organizations was held here today under the chairmanship of Mohinder Singh, Chief Organizer of Bhai Kanhaiya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K and former member of DGPC Jammu, wherein participants expressed concern over unfulfilled commitments regarding restoration of statehood, rising unemployment, administrative delays and other long-pending issues affecting the general public and Sikh community.
Mohinder Singh expressed concern over the “unfulfilled promises” regarding restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He said that despite repeated assurances, no concrete steps have been taken so far. He further stated that although a popular Government has been formed through democratic elections, the ground situation remains unsatisfactory due to rising unemployment, stalled recruitment processes and delays in government functioning.
He also pointed out the ongoing blame game between the elected Government led by Omar Abdullah and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, stating that common people are suffering due to administrative confusion and delays in decision-making.
The meeting unanimously appealed for the early restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. It also raised the long-pending issue of rehabilitation of 1947 refugees from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urged release of the promised financial assistance of Rs 30 lakh per family without further delay.
The participants also demanded that Punjabi language be given due recognition and included among the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir along with Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri and English.
Those present included Darbinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Gajan Singh, Ravinder Singh, Kulwant Singh Khajuria, Kuldeep Kour, Gurmeet Kour, Charanjeet Singh and others.
