Srinagar, May 22: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi, today reviewed security and logistical arrangements for forthcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026 during a high-level meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by senior police and security officers, including DIGs of IR Kashmir, CKR Srinagar, Traffic Kashmir, SKR Anantnag and Armed Kashmir, besides district SSPs of Kashmir Zone, SSP PCR Kashmir, officers from CID, SDRF, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Telecom, Security and other wings.
During the meeting, district SSPs briefed the IGP about security preparedness, deployment plans, traffic regulation, crowd management and other logistical arrangements for Eid celebrations and the upcoming pilgrimage.
Emphasising the importance of smooth Eid celebrations, the IGP directed officers to ensure robust crowd management at mosques and major congregation points across the Valley.
He stressed the need for proper regulation of entry and exit points, deployment of adequate security personnel at sensitive locations and measures to prevent overcrowding.
Birdi also instructed field officers to intensify surveillance, enhance patrolling and conduct random checks at vulnerable locations to counter any potential security threats during the festive period.
Reviewing preparations for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the IGP stressed coordinated planning to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims.
He directed officers to strengthen security measures along the Yatra routes and deploy Anti-Sabotage teams to mitigate potential risks.
The IGP further called for enhanced surveillance and threat detection through the use of advanced technologies and real-time monitoring systems on both pilgrimage routes.
He also reviewed the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be followed during the Yatra and underscored the importance of inter-agency coordination and robust contingency plans to deal with any unforeseen situation.
