GOOL, MAY 21: In a major initiative to promote eco-tourism and showcase the rich natural heritage of the region, the Sub-Divisional Administration Gool, under the aegis of District Administration Ramban, today organised maiden Iris Flower Bloom Festival here at the scenic Dherian Top-Toungali.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan inaugurated the festival as the Chief Guest in the presence of SDM Imtiaz Ahmed, Tehsildar S. Harjeet Singh, officers from civil and police administration, prominent citizens, local artists, school children and a large gathering of citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner congratulated the SDM and the organising team for successfully hosting the first –ever festival of its kind in the area. He said the event reflects the immense tourism potential and rich cultural identity of Gool and adjoining areas.
Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, he said the blooming Iris fields symbolize the need for harmonious coexistence with nature and collective responsibility towards preserving the environment.
The Deputy Commissioner said that such festivals would help attract tourists and create livelihood opportunities for local communities.
He also appreciated the vibrant cultural performances presented by school children and local folk artists, which showcased the traditions and heritage of District Ramban.
A major attraction of the event was the presentation of awareness skits and cultural programmes by students focusing on social issues, particularly the menace of drug abuse.
The festival venue featured vibrant natural Iris flower gardens, photo spots and stalls displaying local cuisine and handicrafts. The event concluded with the Deputy Commissioner expressing gratitude to local artists, musicians, school children and the public for their enthusiastic participation and contribution towards the success of the maiden festival.
