Man killed, another hurt in road accident at Banihal

RAMBAN, May 21: A tragic road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway claimed one life and left another person injured near Kharpora Chowk in Banihal today.
According to police officials, the accident occurred when a Tata load carrier (JK01AS-5495), allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided with a stationary truck (BP10JA-1453) parked along the roadside.
In the impact, the co-passenger of the load carrier, identified as Bashir Ahmed Kumar, son of Mohammad Ismail Kumar and a resident of Boonara Pulwama, died on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle, Akil Ahmed Magray, son of Mohammad Ashraf and a resident of Hajibal Pulwama, sustained injuries.
Police said that the injured driver and the deceased were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Banihal for treatment and medico-legal formalities. After completion of necessary procedures, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family for last rites.
SHO Banihal, Inspector Ashiq Lone, confirmed that police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further investigation into the matter.
