GUWAHATI, May 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday reviewed the situation arising from the price rise of essential commodities, and instructed officials to prevent any unfair increase.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said Sarma has directed to convene DC-led District Monitoring Committees within the next 3–4 days, mandatory display of retail and wholesale prices at all shops and wholesale outlets.

It said Sarma directed strict action, including cancellation of trade licences, against abnormal pricing.
He also instructed weekly review meetings between deputy commissioners, chambers of commerce and trade bodies, along with intensive field-level monitoring to detect and prevent unusual price escalation.
“Our government and administration is keeping a close eye on the market and will not allow any unfair price rise. I have instructed officials in every district to keep tabs on prices of items and take stringent actions against defaulters,” Sarma said. (PTI)
