BEIJING, May 17: A pre-Yoga day event was held in the Indian Consulate in Shanghai on Sunday, where a large number of people took part.
Indian Consul General Pratik Mathur facilitated the Consulate and the Pilates Summit of China for holding the event in Shanghai in the lead up to the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026.
The International Yoga Day, which is observed annually on June 21 following its adoption by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014, is a popular event in China.
The summit, which was previously held in Beijing in 2024, is being organised in Shanghai from June 16 – 19, 2026 and is expected to bring together thousands of yoga practitioners, wellness experts and students from across the world for the first time in Shanghai, a press release from the Consulate said.
During his engagements at the summit, the Consul General highlighted the growing global appeal of yoga and underscored the historic scale of preparations underway for the twelfth edition of the International Day of Yoga, the press release said.
He said the wide-ranging events planned in the lead up to IDY 2026, encompassing the broader AYUSH ecosystem, including Ayurveda, mindfulness and holistic wellness traditions of India, reflected the enduring and expanding global impact of Indian culture and wellness traditions.
He said the scale of participation and growing interest in yoga and wellness in the region further underscored the universal appeal of yoga as an instrument for wellness, harmony and peace. )PTI)
