JAMMU, May 14: Continuing his extensive mass contact programme to reach out to the people and listen to their grievances, JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today visited Nanak Nagar in Ward-43 of Jammu Municipal Corporation and interacted with local residents, traders, youth and senior citizens.
A large number of people apprised him of various civic and public issues confronting the area, including irregular water supply, damaged roads, poor sanitation, erratic power supply, unemployment among youth and rising inflation affecting common households.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Kulbushan Sharma, former Corporator, Jasvinder Lucky, Sanjay Murli, Avtar Singh, Ashwani Sethi and Sanjeev Katal along with several local residents and Congress workers.
Addressing the gathering, Bhalla said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing numerous hardships. He expressed concern over the growing unemployment, rising prices of essential commodities, increasing financial burden on public, and the lack of adequate employment opportunities in the Union Territory. He said inflation has badly affected household budgets, while small traders and daily wage earners are struggling to sustain themselves amid economic uncertainty.
Bhalla further said that despite repeated promises, the J&K people are still awaiting restoration of full statehood and democratic empowerment. He stated that there is growing public disappointment over delays in fulfilling commitments related to safeguarding democratic rights. He added that the absence of a fully empowered elected Government has widened the gap between administration and the common people, resulting in several unresolved public grievances.
Highlighting civic concerns in Jammu city, Bhalla said residents are facing serious issues related to inadequate drainage systems, traffic congestion, poor maintenance of lanes and drains, irregular sanitation services and shortage of basic amenities in several localities. He stressed that development should not remain confined to announcements alone but must be visible on the ground.
During the interaction, local residents sought immediate attention towards civic issues in Nanak Nagar and adjoining areas. Bhalla assured that efforts would be made to ensure that developmental works are accelerated and genuine public concerns are addressed in a time-bound manner.
