Karra, Mir address workers’ convention

SHOPIAN, May 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Sunday held Party workers’ convention at Arhama in Shopian and resolved to continue fighting for people’s rights and aspirations, which have been under assault after downgrading full fledged State of J&K by the BJP Govt.
JKPCC also resolved to continue its movement for restoration of Statehood to J&K under the programme `Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ and take this struggle to its logical conclusion.
JKUT Cong chief, Tariq Hameed Karra alongwith CLP Leader and AICC general secretary, Ghulam Ahmad Mir and other senior leaders chaired the day long political convention, reminding the Party workers’ and people of Shopian about Congress Party’s proactive role in the inclusive development of the district including grating district to this important part of South Kashmir, which helped people to avail all the facilities especially infrastructure, administrative, health, education etc.
Referring to downgrading of princely state of J&K and dividing it into two UTs, JKPCC chief said this move reflected the mindset of BJP, which had the agenda and ambition to demean and demoralise people of all three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh aiming to fulfill their agenda based on deceit and exploitation. BJP is engineering divisions on religious and regional basis for electoral gains, which is highly deplorable and unacceptable, Karra added and rued that despite getting mandate, BJP has done injustice to Jammu region also as it did with Kashmir and Ladakh divisions.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir said the country especially J&K is confronted with different challenges given the fact, we have been downgraded to UT level from full-fledged State, which has not only disempowered the people, but weakened the Institution which stand guarantee to protection of rights. He said Congress Party strengthened every institution in the Country, but the BJP Govt is out to weaken these for personal benefit. Mir lashed out at BJP for indulging in systematic erosion of democratic institution in the Country.
Senior Party leaders- Bashir Ahmad Magray, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, Abdul Raheem Rather, Nissat Ahmad Mandoo, Zaffar Salati, Shabnam Jaan, Reyaz Manhas, and others also addressed the convention.
