SRINAGAR, May 9: A passenger arriving at Srinagar Airport from Chennai was today found carrying Rs 15 lakh cash during checking by the Income Tax Unit.
An official said that the passenger, identified as Khurshid Ahmed Khan, had arrived in Srinagar via Delhi. He travelled by flight AI-2832 from Chennai to Delhi and later boarded flight AI-1739 from Delhi to Srinagar.

He said the cash was detected during routine checking at the airport by the Income Tax Unit stationed at Srinagar International Airport.
“During questioning, the passenger informed the authorities that he has been running a handicrafts business in Chennai for the last 40 years”.
He further stated that the money was being carried for expenses related to a marriage function in his family.
“The cash was subsequently seized by the concerned authorities for verification and further legal formalities.”
The passenger has been directed to appear before the Income Tax Office in Srinagar, on Monday for further proceedings.
