Kashmiri artists pay tribute to legendary singer Vijay Malla

JAMMU, May 9: In a programme organised by Athrot Cultural Foundation under the leadership of R.K Pandita and Abhimanyu Peshin here today, the young Kashmiri artists paid tribute to the legendary Kashmiri singer, Vijay Malla.
The programme was supported by Panun Kashmir and People’s Hut Foundation and was attended by several prominent personalities including Swami Kumar Ji, Dr. Agnishekhar, Tito Ganju, eminent singer and composer Naina Saproo Trisal, Kiran Pandita, Prof. Virender Rawal, Sanjay Raina, Adarsh Ajit, Dr. Ramesh Nirash, Prof. Virender Rawal and Ramesh Marhatta.
Among performers was Vanshika Kaw, class 6 student who performed an emotional rendition ‘Humse Mat Puchhiye Hum Kidr Jayenge’.
Daksh Bhat, Lavanya Koul, Shruti Raina, Pranav and Gandharv Kaloo were other performers.
Highlight of the evening was the performance by Aakash Koul, whose renditions ‘Bey Aaroo Teer Mo Layi’ drew appreciation from the audience.
A duet tribute by Gandharv Kaloo and Pranav filled the atmosphere with emotions.
Addressing the gathering, Naina Saproo Trisal expressed satisfaction that the musical and cultural legacy of Kashmir will continue through the younger generation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Agnishekhar recalled the monumental contribution of Kashmiri Pandit scholar Pt. Sharangdeva, whose Sanskrit treatise Sangita Ratnakara remains one of the most comprehensive and authoritative works on Indian classical music and dance.
The programme was conducted by Kanwal Peshin.
The performers were felicitated with a certificate of participation. Kamal Ganjoo and Dr Rohit Koul were also felicitated.
