Srinagar, May 9: Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari today described the situation at the Achan dumping site as a “humanitarian issue” and urged the NC-led Government to address the matter without politicising it.
During his visit to the site, where locals staged a sit-in protest and held placards, Bukhari said the issue should be viewed from the perspective of public welfare and health rather than being treated merely as a legal matter.

“This is a humanitarian issue and it has to be looked into that way, not only from the view of law. The Government should not play politics over it and instead address the issue which is needed,” he said.
Bukhari said efforts should be made to ensure a balanced approach that minimises health risks while paving the way for a long-term solution to the waste dumping site issue.
“We will try to find a solution so that both things are balanced. The health issues have to be minimised and then an overall solution worked out,” he said.
Referring to allegations regarding non-functional machinery and lack of safety measures at the dumping site, Bukhari assured residents that the concerns would be taken up.
“I assure people that all the issues will be addressed. If the machines are not being used and other precautions are not being taken, we will try to address those issues,” he said.
Bukhari said his visit was aimed at reaching out to affected residents and understanding their grievances firsthand.
“We have tried to reach out to the people here today. This is a humanitarian issue and I promise people that we will address it,” he added.
On the occasion, locals apprised Bukhari and the party leadership of the decades-long problems they have been facing due to the dumping site and sought urgent intervention before the situation worsens further because of the foul odour and other hazardous effects of the site.
