JAMMU, May 6: Police claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers, including a woman, from Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, and Ramban districts, while recovering substantial quantity of narcotics substances from their possession.
In one of the operations at Circular Road, Jammu on May 4, a police official said one Khurshid Ahmed of Rawat Pura, Karal Pura, Kupwara, was arrested with approximately 4-5 grams of heroin-like substance during routine checking.
He was accordingly booked in case FIR number 42/2026 under sections 8/20/21 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Pacca Danga, he said.
Meanwhile, in another operation at Transport Nagar, Narwal, a vehicle (JK02DP-2219) was intercepted by a team of Police Station Bahu Fort.
On search, its driver, identified as Navjot Singh alias Bablu of Indra Nagar, Miran Sahib, Tehsil RS Pura, Jammu, was found in possession of approximately 264 grams of heroin-like substance, the police official said.
Additionally, he said a cash amount of Rs 4,920 and four mobiles were also recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, he was booked in case FIR number 104/2026 under sections 8/22/25/27-A of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Bahu Fort, the police official said.
According to him, the accused is a known criminal with a history of involvement in multiple offences and is reportedly involved in around 10 previous FIRs.
The official added that further investigation in both the cases is underway.
Meanwhile, in Katra town of Reasi district, a drug peddler was arrested with 300 capsules of pregabalin—a psychotropic substance.
The accused was on way towards Katra from Udhampur town when he was arrested during routine checking near Ambika Chowk.
Police identified the accused as Vicky Kumar of Suketar, tehsil Dansal, district Jammu.
According to a police official, the accused failed to give any satisfactory justification over possessing such a big quantity of the pregabalin capsules.
As such, he was detained immediately and the concerned Drug Inspector was informed for further necessary action under the relevant provisions of the law, the police official said.
In another operation in Udhampur district, a woman narcotic smuggler was arrested with 8.87 grams of heroin.
The accused, identified as Parveen Akhter of Ward number 60, Janipur, Jammu was travelling in a passenger bus when she was arrested by a team of Police Station Rehmbal at Phalata Chowk on the National Highway.
She has been accordingly booked in case FIR number 100/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Rehmbal, with further investigation in the case set into motion.
Similarly, in Ramban district, an alleged drug peddler, identified as Imran Bin Hanief of Chanderkote, Ramban was arrested with approximately 3.13 grams of heroin-like substance during naka checking at Chanderkote area on the National Highway.
According to police, he was accordingly booked in case FIR number 30/2026 under sections 88/21 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Chanderkote.
Further investigation into the case is underway, they said.
