KATRA, May 5: MLA of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Constituency, Baldev Raj Sharma, today met with the Chief Executive Officer of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), Sachin Kumar Vaishya, at Katra and submitted a formal representation regarding an important public infrastructure project at Banganga.
In his representation, the MLA raised the long-pending and genuine public demand for the proposed construction of a road from the PWD road at Banganga to the Army Camp and further extension to the proposed Balni Bridge near Army Camp, Banganga. He emphasized that although the project is yet to be sanctioned, it holds significant public and humanitarian importance for the people of Katra.
Sharma highlighted that the proposed road and bridge will provide convenient and dignified access to the Shamshan Ghat at Banganga, particularly for those who bring vehicles to the cremation ground. At present, due to lack of proper connectivity, vehicles are unable to reach the site easily, causing inconvenience and distress to grieving families.
He further stated that the project would also help in restoring and improving connectivity of the old pathway used by residents of Village Purna Daroor, linking the PWD road at Banganga to Ward Number 4 (Dabba, Banns, Padala, and Bandhi Mohalla), thereby ensuring smoother movement for the local population.
The MLA also informed that as per the alignment, the proposed road will connect with the Tarakote-Langar Road, Banganga, and therefore access through the Shrine Board road is required at the initial stage. In this regard, he requested the CEO to kindly grant the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) for access along the Tarakote-Langar Road so that the proposal may be processed further for approval and sanction.
Sharma expressed hope for an early and positive response, noting that the project would greatly benefit the residents of Katra and surrounding areas.
Sachin Kumar Vaishya gave a patient hearing and assured that the representation would be examined on priority.
