Former CEA Subramanian conferred with  University of Chicago Alumni Award

WASHINGTON, May 1:  India’s former Chief Economic Adviser K V Subramanian was conferred with the prestigious Alumni Award for Professional Achievement by the University of Chicago.
Subramanian becomes the first Indian economist to receive the honour since its inception in 1941.
The award was conferred at the university’s Alumni Weekend gathering, which got underway on Thursday.
As chief economic adviser to the Government of India, Subramanian served as the principal economic voice during the COVID-19 crisis, the university said.
It highlighted economic surveys authored by Subramanian as “landmark” documents that shaped India’s policy response, anchored in competitive markets, policy autonomy, and inclusive growth.
His early articulation of a V-shaped economic recovery during the pandemic was cited as a critical factor in anchoring confidence in India’s resilience at a time of global uncertainty.
“His three landmark Economic Surveys of India shaped national discourse on ethical wealth creation, public investment and postpandemic recovery, and provided the intellectual foundation for India’s approach to self-reliance, anchored in competitive markets, policy autonomy, and inclusive growth,” the university said.
Subramanian has previously been conferred distinguished alumnus awards by his two other alma maters, IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta. (PTI)
