JAMMU, Apr 30: BJP Mahila Morcha J&K president Neha Mahajan has demanded introduction of a Vande Bharat Express train on the Jammu-Chandigarh-Haridwar route and submitted a memorandum to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in this regard.
The memorandum was submitted in the presence of BJP J&K President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma, while BJP Mahila Morcha General Secretary Urvashi Gupta was also present.
Neha Mahajan said there is acute shortage of train connectivity between Jammu and Haridwar.
At present, she said only Hemkunt Express operates on the route and has limited AC capacity, making it difficult for passengers to get confirmed tickets.
She said Tatkal bookings are exhausted within minutes, causing inconvenience to travellers.
She said Haridwar holds great religious importance for Hindu and Sikh communities and a large number of devotees from Jammu and Kashmir travel for Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra.
She added that poor train connectivity creates problems for pilgrims and other passengers.
The BJP leader also said students studying in Chandigarh and people travelling for education, medical treatment and business purposes are facing serious difficulties due to lack of better rail services.
Mahajan said introduction of a Vande Bharat train on the route would improve passenger convenience, promote religious tourism, strengthen regional connectivity and boost economic activity.
She added that the proposed train would also benefit pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, Katra.
She urged the Railway Minister to consider the demand at the earliest in the larger public interest.
