JAMMU, Apr 21: A massive fire today destroyed standing wheat crop spread over nearly 80 kanals of land in Lasuda village of Bishnah, causing heavy losses to local farmers.
According to reports, the blaze erupted suddenly and spread rapidly across the fields. Locals rushed to the spot and made frantic efforts to control the fire using tractors and other available means. During the firefighting attempts, a tractor driver sustained injuries after his vehicle was engulfed in flames.
A fire tender later reached the scene and managed to bring the situation under control, preventing further damage. Officials from the civil administration also visited the site and assured affected farmers of adequate compensation.
Farmers expressed distress over the loss, stating that they were heavily dependent on the crop for their livelihood and now face serious financial hardship.
