SRINAGAR, April 21: The Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE) today conducted a cybercrime awareness-cum-interaction workshop at Model Government Degree College, Charar-e-Sharief, Budgam.
During the workshop, Deputy SP Ashiq Hussain Malik, SHO Police Station, CICE Srinagar, delivered the inaugural address. SSP CICE Ramnish Gupta presented a detailed and insightful session on cybercrime awareness, highlighting various types of cyber-enabled frauds such as online investment scams, digital arrest frauds, phishing, social media frauds, and hacking. He also elaborated on the modus operandi adopted by cyber fraudsters, along with methods of detection, prevention, and the broader implications of online threats.
Participants were informed about the use of the 1930 helpline number, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), and the website [www.cybercrime.gov.in] for lodging complaints. The speaker also emphasized the importance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative, underlining the need to tackle drug abuse alongside cybercrime.
The workshop was attended by the Principal of Model Government Degree College, Charar-e-Sharief, faculty members, and officers from CICE Srinagar, including Deputy SP Arif Ahmad, Deputy SP Nasir Kirmani, and Inspector Arshid Mustafa.
The primary objective of the workshop was to engage with college students and promote awareness at the grassroots level, thereby helping to curb the growing menace of cybercrime and drug abuse.
Principal Dr Pervaz Ahmad highlighted the proactive role of the police in safeguarding the lives and interests of the general public, particularly students. The event witnessed participation from around 200 attendees.
