SRINAGAR, Apr 19: A US national was detained at Srinagar International Airport on Sunday after authorities found him in possession of a satellite phone, sources said.
The individual has been identified as Jeffrey Scott Prather, a resident of Montana, USA. Sources said that he was intercepted during routine security checks, following which security agencies took him into custody for questioning.
The use of satellite phones is strictly regulated in the Kashmir, and possession without prior authorization is prohibited. Officials said a local person from Kolkata identified as Haldar Koushik accompanying him has also been detained, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the purpose of their visit and use of the device.
