JAMMU, Apr 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organised a musical tribute to Padma Shri Padma Sachdev on the occasion of her birth anniversary, here today.
The programme commenced with floral tribute to the legendary poetess by the dignitaries, followed by a series of soulful musical presentations and reflections celebrating her life and immense contribution to literature, particularly in Dogri language.
Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary, Department of Culture, who was the chief guest on the occasion, paid rich tributes to Padma Sachdev and highlighted her invaluable contribution to Indian literature.
In his address, he remarked that Padma Sachdev’s writings continue to inspire generations and remain a cornerstone of the cultural and literary heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Harvinder Kour, Secretary, JKAACL, welcomed the guests and audience.
In her address, she underscored the importance of remembering and celebrating literary icons like Padma Sachdev, whose works have enriched regional languages and culture and reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural legacy of the region.
On the occasion, Sahitya Akademi Awardees from Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2025 were also felicitated by the chief guest.
Pritpal Singh Betab was felicitated for his poetry collection “Safar Jaari Hai”, while Khajur Singh Thakur was honoured for his poetry collection “Thakur Satsayie”, in recognition of their significant contribution to literature.
Thakur Khajoor Singh was also honoured with a President’s Award for his dedicated service as an educator and his efforts in cultural preservation.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Promila Manhas, who eloquently steered the event.
