Iran put forward sensible proposals, US must take realistic approach: Iranian TV

TEHRAN, April 12 : Iran has put forward reasonable initiatives and proposals during negotiations with the United States, and now everything depends on the US, which must take a realistic approach to resolving the issues, Iranian TV channel Press TV reported on Sunday, citing a source familiar with the matter.
The US government miscalculated the negotiations just as it had its military strategy, the channel reported, citing a source.
The location of the next round of talks between the US and Iran has not yet been determined, the TV channel added, citing an Iranian source.
Iran and the US had talks in Islamabad on Saturday after US President Donald Trump had announced an agreement with Tehran on a two-week ceasefire on Wednesday night.
On Sunday morning, the head of the American delegation, Vice President J.D. Vance, announced that Iran and the United States had failed to reach an agreement during lengthy negotiations and that the US delegation would return home without a deal.
Responding to the US claim, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that US-Iran talks were held in an atmosphere of mistrust, and no one expected an agreement to be reached overnight.
“These talks were held in an atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion. Naturally, from the very beginning, we should not have expected an agreement to be reached overnight. No one had such expectations,” Baghaei said, as quoted by the Mehr news agency.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman also said that Iran and the United States reached an understanding on a number of issues, but disagreed on two or three important issues, which is why a deal following the talks in Islamabad failed.
“We reached an understanding on a number of issues, but our views diverged on two or three important issues, and ultimately the talks failed to produce an agreement,” Baghaei said, as quoted by the Mehr news agency.
