MOSCOW, April 12: Russia is closely monitoring the nomination of candidates for the post of UN Secretary-General and intends to approach the selection process thoroughly, Kirill Logvinov, the director of the international organisations department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Sputnik.
“The Russian side intends to approach the selection of the next Secretary-General thoroughly. We are closely monitoring the nomination process,” Logvinov said.
He added that the post of UN Secretary-General remained highly significant in the context of international politics.
“Although formally this position is purely administrative in nature, we tirelessly point out that in reality, the official occupying it has a wide range of levers to influence the consideration of issues on the organisation’s agenda, including political ones,” the diplomat noted.
