Two drug peddlers arrested, narcotics recovered

UDHAMPUR, Apr 12: In separate cases, Udhampur Police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered narcotic substance from their possession.
Police apprehended one drug peddler and recovered heroin from his possession during naka checking at Phalata. The accused was travelling in a Tavera vehicle, bearing registration number JK02AS-2137, which was on its way from Jammu towards Udhampur.
On enquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Khaliq Sheikh of Sheikh Mohalla Dardpora, Tehsil Lalpora, District Kupwara, while the co-passenger identified himself as Umar Riyaz Ganie, son of Riyaz Ahmad Ganie of Danker Mohalla Wuyan, Pampore, District Pulwama.
During personal search of the co-passenger Umar Riyaz Ganie, a transparent polypack containing heroin weighing 4.70 grams (including polypack) was recovered from his possession. The accused was accordingly arrested and the vehicle was seized.
In this regard, a case FIR number 74/2026 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Rehambal and further investigation is underway.
In another success during naka checking at Link Road near Subash Stadium, Police intercepted one vehicle XUV 3XO, bearing registration number JK19A-9176. During search of the vehicle, one bag was found on the rear seat. Upon checking, a polythene containing Ganja weighing 500 grams, was recovered from the said bag.
The driver disclosed his identity as Mohit Bassan, son of Tarsem Kumar, resident of H. No. 43, Phase-1, Housing Colony, Udhampur, who was arrested on the spot.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 139/2025 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
