RAMBAN, Apr 5: Police here today destroyed illegal poppy plants and arrested one person involved in this crime.
After receiving information regarding illegal cultivation of opium poppy, cops from Police Station Ramban acted promptly and raided the land used for the cultivation of illegal crop, belonging to Mohd Yousuf Lone, son of Ahadullah Lone, resident of Batoo Neel, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban, at present Kowbagh, Ramban.
The cops came to know that Mohd Yousuf Lone was unlawfully cultivating the opium poppy like plants on his land near his residential house at Kowbagh, without any valid licence or permission from the competent authority.
During the course of action, the illegally cultivated crop was destroyed on the spot in the presence of Executive Magistrate (EMIC) following due legal procedure.
A case has been registered at Police Station Ramban in this regard under relevant provisions of NDPS Act and investigation started.
