JAMMU, Apr 5: To deliberate over the pangs of turmoil Abhinavgupt Shaktiveers Trust (AGT) organised a seminar here, today on 36 years of exile and way forward in which grave concern was expressed over the stoic silence maintained by Government on the plight of displaced Kashmiri Pandits leading an exiled life for last 37 years.
Prof K N Pandita a well known scholar and authority on Central Asia Affairs and B L Saraf retired Session and District Judge and columnist were the main speakers. Concern was shown that no headway has been made during last 37 years over the rehabilitation of displaced Pandits in Valley and it seems the Government has put this important issue on cold storage.
Being away from their ancestral land for about four decades has led mental trauma among the people who loved their mother land most, the speakers said and appealed the Government to fulfil the long standing aspirations of the community in this regard without further delay. “The Government of UT or Central needs to restore the authority of law in giving justice to lakhs of displaced Pandits leading an exiled life in different parts of country who crave for return to the Valley’’.
Concern was also shown over the failure of UT Government in passage of Shrine s and Temples Bill which was separately tabled in the House by BJP and NC members respectively. This way the Government has been totally exposed for its discriminatory approach towards the hapless community, they said, adding how long they will hoodwink the community in this regard.
“Many shrines and Hindu temples in Valley are totally in dilapidated condition while the land of various shrines and temples has been encroached and no steps have been taken on Government level to restore them,’’ they said, adding the role of Government in this regard has belied the community.
The casual approach of the Government towards the grave issues of the community is totally unfortunate and wrong narrative is being deliberately created against the community to deprive them of their rights which will not be tolerated at any cost now, they added.
The seminar was attended by the social activists, scholars, camp representatives, Mohalla welfare committee representatives and Trustees of Abhinavgupt Shaktiveers including I K Raina, its co convener, Ashok Kangan, M L Bhat, Rattan Lal Malla, Nana Ji Raina. The stage was conducted by I K Raina.
