UDHAMPUR, Apr 5: Senior leader Pawan Khajuria held a meeting with residents of Panchayat Babey in Tehsil Majalta, under the Udhampur East Assembly constituency and listened to the problems of the locals for taking concrete steps toward their resolution.
During the meeting, the villagers expressed their grievances. They told Khajuria that the problems of electricity and water in the area are extremely serious. In many places, they said, power supply remains disrupted for days, affecting the daily lives of the people. Due to the lack of clean drinking water, people are forced to fetch water from distant places, causing significant hardship, especially for women and the elderly, they added.
The villagers also pointed out that due to last year’s heavy rains and natural disasters, the area suffered massive destruction. Many houses were completely damaged, but the affected families have not yet received adequate relief and rehabilitation package. The affected families are waiting for the Government to fulfill its promise of providing five marla of land and housing while the situation is so severe that many people are still forced to live in tents, raising serious questions about the functioning of the administration, villagers said.
Being the last village of the Assembly constituency, Panchayat Babey has long been neglected. Expressing their pain, residents questioned whether they are not citizens of India who too deserve basic facilities.
Pawan Khajuria listened seriously to the villagers’ problems and assured them that these matters would be strongly raised before the concerned departments and higher authorities. He emphasized that basic issues like electricity, water, and rehabilitation must be resolved at the earliest so that people can lead a dignified life.
Pawan Khajuria also demanded that the administration should promptly arrange permanent housing for the affected families and prioritize the improvement of basic facilities in the area.
On this occasion, senior leaders Bhuri Singh, Bishan Das, Jagdish Kumar, Attar Singh, Captain Gopal Singh, Beli Ram, Girdhari Singh, Manjeet Singh, Ramesh Chandra, Puran Singh, Naresh Singh, Jagdev Singh, Sagar Singh, Pawan Singh, Mohinder Singh, Jalim Singh, Chait Singh, Pritam Singh, Rakesh Kumar, and others were also present.
