SRINAGAR, Apr 2: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a chargesheet in FIR Number 11/2020 before the Court of Additional Special Judge Anti-Corruption Srinagar against five officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and one private beneficiary.
The case pertains to the alleged illegal construction of a four-storey commercial complex, “Abdullah Shopping Plaza,” at Kursoo Rajbagh. The ACB stated that the building was raised under the guise of permission for a residential house, in alleged connivance with SMC officials.
Those chargesheeted include then Ward Officers Choudary Mehraj-Din Bhuja and Showkat Hussain Hamdani, Building Inspectors Nisar Ahmad Rah and Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, and then CEO SMC Mudasir Hussain Banday, along with beneficiary Mohammad Abdullah Dar.
According to the ACB, the investigation, based on oral and documentary evidence, substantiated charges of abuse of official position, criminal conspiracy, and conferring undue benefit to a private individual. Prosecution sanction was obtained from the Government before filing the chargesheet.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 11, 2026.
