SRINAGAR, Apr 1: Army today said that a local terrorist was killed in an overnight encounter in Ganderbal district.
A cordon and search operation was launched by security forces last night in Arahama area of Ganderbal following information about suspicious movement in the area.

“Based on specific intelligence input, joint search operation was launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in general area Arahama of Ganderbal,” Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
“During the search, vigilant troops observed suspicious activity. On being challenged, terrorists opened fire and own troops retaliated,” the Army said.
The army said that the cordon was tactically reorganised amidst intermittent firing, adding the troops effectively retaliated with a calibrated response, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist.
He has been identified as Arsheed Mughal son of Gul Zaman Mughal of Chountwaliwar in Lar area in Ganderbal district. The 28-year-old militant was identified by his elder brother at the Police Control Room here.
He was a part-time computer operator and was engaged in preparation of Adhar card, domicile certificates.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent Kangan constituted a Medical Board for the conduct of postmortem of the deceased. Click here to watch video
In an order issued here, the MS SDH Kangan said that the Medical Board was constituted on the request received from the SHO Police Station Kangan.
The members of the medical board who conducted the autopsy were Dr Shabir Ahmad Rather, Dr Feroze Ahmad Khan, Dr Razia Hasan, Ghulam Nabi War and Abdul Rashid Sheikh.
The body was taken by Police to Zachaldara in district Baramulla where he was buried in a local graveyard. The funeral was attended by 7 persons including relatives of the deceased.
Police have registered a case (FIR no 49/2026) under relevant sections of law in Police Station Ganderbal. One AK-56 rifle, 3 magazines, 67 live rounds and 58 empty AK rounds were recovered from the site of the encounter.
