This has averted what could have been a major tragedy in future as some persons have already been arrested in Malerkotla for radicalisation of local youth. Plan of the terrorists will be known only after completion of their interrogation.
Neither PP nor JKP have issued any statement so far on the arrest of suspected terrorists but there were reports that two foreigners and a local were nabbed in a joint operation at Malerkotla.
Unconfirmed reports said Abu Huraira alias Abbu Gaba and Usman, the two foreigners and Zamil, a local have been arrested and are being interrogated.
The breakthrough reportedly came during the questioning of a local drug peddler who had been detained under the ongoing anti-drug campaign. The suspect, as per sources, is said to have provided information about the two men, whose identities allegedly matched the wanted terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
The suspected terrorists are likely to be brought to Jammu and Kashmir for sustained questioning shortly. Based on their arrests, the busting of some local networks of the terrorists is not ruled out.
Locals said the duo had stayed at different locations across India for past quite some time and had never raised suspicion, with most people believing them to be Indian nationals.
Recently, Punjab Police wings arrested three local men-Farhan Anjum, Adnan Khan, and Waris Ali from Malerkotla-for allegedly radicalising locals in the name of religion. During the operation, police had recovered a .32 bore pistol, three cartridges, and four mobile phones.
Earlier, authorities had also arrested a woman named Gujala and Yameen Mohammad in a cross-border espionage case. The woman is accused of acting as a local handler, while Yameen Mohammad-reportedly linked to the Pakistan embassy-was allegedly passing information to the enemy.
