SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Passenger facilities at Srinagar International Airport are set for a major upgrade under a nationwide airport modernisation initiative.
According to an official handout, the upgrades at the airport include the addition of a 600-square-metre Security Hold Area equipped with enhanced seating capacity and improved passenger amenities.
The expansion is aimed at easing congestion and enhancing overall passenger comfort.
The airport will also introduce DigiYatra, a facial recognition-based system designed to enable seamless and contactless travel.
The facility is currently under trial and is expected to significantly reduce wait times at checkpoints.
In addition, passengers will be offered free Wi-Fi access for up to four hours, along with the “Flybrary” initiative, which allows travellers to read books while waiting in the security hold area.
Both services are presently being tested, officials said.
Officials added that the upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to modernise airport infrastructure and enhance passenger experience, and are expected to improve operational efficiency while bringing the airport in line with evolving digital and customer-centric aviation standards.
