Srinagar, Mar 25: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today urged the Government to “reconsider” the life imprisonment awarded to separatist leader Asiya Andrabi.
Speaking to reporters here, Mufti said that while she has had differences with Andrabi and her conduct, there should be a humanitarian approach in her case.
“We have had differences with Asiya Andrabi as well as with her conduct. But there must be humanity. She is a woman and has reached a point in her life where I feel it must be reviewed and reconsidered,” she said. Click here to watch video
Mufti noted that Andrabi has already spent several years in jail, adding that her husband too has spent nearly 30 years in prison.
She also questioned the concept of life imprisonment extending till the end of life, saying it should be revisited.
