JAMMU, Mar 23 : Different institutions including educational, political parties and non-political organisations across Jammu observed Martyrs Day and paid tribute to the Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who were executed on this day in 1931.
The Freedom Fighters Memorial Association, today commemorated the Day and paid homage to the immortal martyrs and to honour their unparalleled contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Speaking on the occasion, S K Sharma, Chairman of the Association, stated that India paid a very heavy price to attain independence from British rule.

He emphasized that the youth of the nation must be guided by discipline, patriotism, and strong moral values so that such sacrifices are never required again.
Among those present were Karnail Chand, Prof R P Sharma, Y P Sharma, G I Singh, Santokh Singh, Raj Kumar, Karan Kapoor, Prof S Sbhalwal, Ritoo Kumar, Sourab Sharma, Jatinder Bhardwaj, Nirmal Kishore and Garu Ram.
A padyatra was organized under the banner of “My Bharat, My Responsibility” by the Nations Development Association (NDA) in collaboration with MY Bharat Jammu, to mark Shaheed Diwas.
The padyatra commenced from National Public School, Abtal, a village located near the Indo-Pak International Border and concluded at the historic Bamuchak Temple, Abtal.
Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, MLA Ramgarh and graced the occasion and actively participated in the padyatra. The event was organized under the leadership of Sushil Singh Charak, Chief Functionary, Nations Development Association (NDA).
Prominent among those present were Devinder Bhatti, Principal, National Public School, Abtal, Harvind Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Sakshi Verma and other members of the community.
GDC Darhal solemnly observed Shaheedi Diwas by organising a programme.
The event was organized under the able guidance of the worthy Principal, Prof Zameer Ahmed Mirza, who presided over the function.
A major highlight of the programme was the comprehensive and insightful lecture delivered by Dr Atta Ul Rehman Malik, Head, Department of Political Science and Prof Taseem Ahmed, Head, Department of Geography.
On the occasion of Shaheedi Diwas, the Jammu & Kashmir unit of Shiv Sena (UBT) paid heartfelt tributes to the great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
State president Manish Sahni said that the sacrifices of these brave martyrs are etched in golden letters in the history of the nation.
He stated that by sacrificing their youth and dreams, they shook the foundations of British rule and played a crucial role in India’s independence.
GDC Sunderbani solemnly observed the Martyrdom Day 2026 of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru with great reverence and patriotic zeal.
The event began with the screening of a documentary showcasing the lives, struggles and remarkable contributions of the martyrs in India’s freedom movement.
The Principal of the college, Dr Vandna Verma, graced the occasion and joined the gathering during the screening.
Sunil Dimple, president mission statehood paid rich floral tributes to the heroes of the India freedom struggle Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, in a function organized by S Tarun Singh, president of the Shahide Azam Bhagat Singh foundation. The other leaders present were Brij Lal Mehra, Swaran Singh Gujaar, S Jaspreet Singh and others.
In a solemn and poignant ceremony, Ward No 41 BJP leaders paid tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of India’s revered freedom fighters.
The BJP leaders, who were present included Rakesh Verma, K L Sharma, R L Kaith Vinod Bhasin, Vishal Abrol, Vikas Abrol, Amit Zutshi, Ramesh Kumar, Tarsem Lal, Ravi Kumar, Madan Lal, Kewal Krishan, Bachan Lal and Rakesh Mattoo paid floral tributes honouring the trio’s indomitable spirit.
GDC Thannamandi solemnly observed Shaheedi Diwas with great reverence and patriotic fervour under the able guidance of Principal, Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad.
As part of the observance, a mass singing of the National Song “Vande Mataram” was organized, symbolizing unity, patriotism and deep respect for the nation’s rich legacy.
Senior Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) leader Narinder Sharma paid rich tributes to the legendary freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru.
Addressing the gathering, Narinder Sharma underscored the historical importance of Shaheedi Diwas and said that the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru are not merely chapters of history but living ideals that continue to guide the nation.
He said their courage, conviction and spirit of selflessness serve as a timeless reminder of the price paid for the freedom that citizens enjoy today.
Shri Ram Sena (SRS) paid heartfelt tributes to the great freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day.
Remembering their supreme sacrifice for the nation, SRS president Rajiv Mahajan said that the bravery, patriotism and unwavering commitment of these martyrs continue to inspire generations.
Bharat Priye, Chairman of JKPCC Kissan Department paid heartfelt tributes to the great martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru.
The programme was organized in the presence of the District President Kissan Congress Kathua along with several senior leaders and party workers.
Among those present on the occasion were Ajay Pal, Dr Satish Sharma, Sanjeevan Singh Saini, Bhag Singh and former Chairman Kulbhushan Kumar, besides a large number of local residents and youth who gathered to honour the unparalleled sacrifices of the martyrs.
On the occasion of Martyrs day a free Medical & Eye Check-Up Camp was successfully organized at Panchayat Ghar, Liswara (Bishnah) by the team of Fortis Escorts Hospital, Amritsar in collaboration with Sharp Sight Eye Hospital, Jammu.
The camp was formally inaugurated by Ashwani Sharma (Ex-MLA, Bishnah).
The camp was conducted by Purushotam K Sharma, a noted social activist, in association with Padam Dev Singh( Sarpanch), Jagdish Raj Sharma, Ramesh Lal (Panch) and Sukhvinder Singh (Numberdar).
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jammu University unit, today organized 41st blood donation camp along with a free medical camp on the occasion of Trimurti Balidan Divas at University of Jammu.
Shri Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Bahu Fort observed balidhan divas of Martyr’s Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev in the premises of Gurudwara Shri Guru Ravi Dass ji Maharaj Bahu Fort Jammu.
Speaking on this occasion Sham Lal Basson, general secretary said that Shaheed E Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were executed by hanging on 23rd March 1931 in Lahore jail a day a head of schedule.
Basson further said that as they marched towards their fate they recited the powerful words of Jagdamba Prasad Bismil “Kabhi woh din ayenge ke jab azad hum honge, yeh apni zamin hogi, yeh apna aasman hoga.” Their voices were silenced but their legacy roared louder than ever-fuelling a fire that burned until India was free.
On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, a langar was organised at Gurudwara Rani Talab, Digiana, by the Bhagat Singh Committee, headed by Ghar Singh.
Prominent personalities present on the occasion included Dwarka Choudhary, Mandeep Choudhary-Youth President Jat Mahasabha, renowned singer Rahul Choudhary, farmer leader Harbans Choudhary and several other respected members of the community.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Congress leader and former DDC Suchetgarh, T S Tony said that the nation owes an unpayable debt to its martyrs.
“Our freedom has come at the cost of countless sacrifices. It is our duty to safeguard it in every possible way,” he said.
To commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, a grand felicitation ceremony was held today at the Town Hall, Jammu Municipal Corporation.
The event was organized to honor the winners of the recently conducted online poetry competition, where the citizens of Jammu showcased their patriotic fervor and creative talent through heartfelt verses dedicated to the martyrs of March 23rd.
The ceremony was graced by a distinguished panel of officials, led by Dr Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation and Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). Joining him in recognizing the young talents were Subha Mehta, Joint Commissioner (R&E), JMC and Dr. Priyanka Malhotra (VAS), JMC.
On the occasion of Shaheed Diwas, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, through its flagship initiative Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), successfully organised a nationwide Padyatra on the theme “Mera Bharat, Meri Zimmedari”.
In District Jammu, the Padyatra was organised at Mount Litera Zee School, where a large number of students and teachers participated with great zeal and patriotic spirit.
The event was formally inaugurated by Principal Dr Nitasha Bali and Vice Principal Dr Radhika Mahajan, who flagged off the Padyatra and encouraged the youth to uphold the values of responsibility, unity, and nation-building.
Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation and Jewel Bazar Traders Association organized a function to pay tributes to Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
A free Ayurvedic Medical camp was organized by Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital in which about 600 persons were benefited.
B S Billawria, former Dy Mayor, while paying tributes on the occasion said that the beautification of bazaar and installation of statue of Shaheed Bhagat singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at shaheed bhagat Singh Chowk is the most urgent thing to be done by JMC for betterment of tourist visiting Jammu and traders of bazaar.
He stressed upon the youth of J&K to work for the betterment of society.
Dr Taran Singh, president said that the foundation is organizing the function on the day to pay tributes to the martyrs since last 35 years in the same venue and named the chowk to the martyrs.
Dr Dilawar, Harshwardan, Mayank, Saksham, Raghav, Kamal Gupta, Rajeev Sharma, Dinesh Gupta, Harbans singh and Brij Mehra were also present during the function.
In order to pay tributes to the martyrs a function was also organised by Ex-servicemen Welfare Association, Akhnoor.
The function was held under the chairmanship of Lakhbir Singh Sohal, Chairman of the association.
Among others who were present during the event included Ragbir Singh, Santosh Sharma, Kaka Ram, Ramesh Kumar, A K Malhotra, Shanti Swaroop, Jagdev Singh, Puran Chand and Shallow Ram.
