Panel framed to monitor Road Safety Policy implementation in J&K

JAMMU, Mar 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a high-level committee to monitor and ensure effective implementation of the Road Safety Policy across the Union Territory.
The committee shall be chaired by Administrative Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department, with Administrative Secretary, Transport Department and Inspector General of Police, Traffic, J&K as Members and Transport Commissioner, J&K as Member Secretary.
As per an order, the committee has been mandated to monitor the implementation of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Safety Policy-2025 across the region, including review of progress made by the concerned departments and agencies in achieving the objectives of the policy, reviewing and recommending engineering and road safety measures for improving road infrastructure, traffic management, signage, road markings, and other interventions.
It will also identify black spots/hotspots and formulate an action plan for their rectification, in coordination with the concerned executive agencies and to periodically review the status of these remedial measures besides reviewing the planning, implementation and operationalisation of Integrate Traffic Management Systems (ITMS)/ Intelligent Traffic Light Systems (ITLS) in Jammu and Srinagar cities and their expansion to other towns of the region.
Further, the committee has been tasked with making such recommendations as may be necessary for strengthening road safety management and improving emerging response to road accidents in the Union Territory.
