Srinagar: Mar 23: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have dismantled a well-organized inter-zonal narcotics racket, delivering a major setback to the drug network operating across regions.
A police spokesperson said that the operation began with the registration of FIR No. 43/2026 at Police Station Qazigund under provisions of the NDPS Act.
He said that during the investigation, one accused was apprehended. “Under sustained interrogation, he disclosed vital information about his links to a supplier based in the Belicharana area of Jammu district-confirming the racket’s inter-zonal reach.”
Acting promptly on this lead, Kulgam Police secured a search warrant from the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kulgam.
A specially constituted team then carried out a meticulously planned raid at a location in Belicharana area of Jammu District.
The search operation led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of contraband-approximately 255 grams of a heroin-like substance. Another accused present at the premises was arrested on the spot.
The spokesperson said that both accused are currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to expose the wider network behind this illicit trade. Officials indicate that more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days.
Kulgam Police, under the leadership of Anayat Ali Chowdhary, have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace and protecting the youth from its devastating impact.
The police have also appealed to the general public to actively support anti-drug efforts by sharing any information related to drug trafficking, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
