Police solve 3 theft cases in Baramulla

SRINAGAR, Mar 20: Police in Baramulla have solved a theft case involving a mobile shop in Kunzar area and arrested the accused from Delhi, officials said today
The case, as per police, was registered on March 9, 2026, at Police Station Kunzar following a complaint by Bilal Ahmad Bhat of Darhama, who reported that unidentified persons had broken into his shop at Mohamadia Complex during the intervening night of March 7 and 8.
According to the complaint, the burglars decamped with around 20 mobile phones, a laptop and Rs 5,000 in cash.
Police registered FIR No. 26/2026 under relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.
During the probe, police said, CCTV footage and other technical evidence were analysed, leading to the identification of the accused as Rahil Ahmad Reshi, a resident of Gonipora, Chanpora in Kunzar.
A police team subsequently traced and arrested the accused from Delhi. During his arrest, 13 stolen mobile phones and one laptop were recovered from his possession.
Police said efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen property, and further investigation in the case is ongoing.
Police in Baramulla have solved two theft cases in Uri, including a mobile shop burglary and a motorcycle theft, and arrested the accused, officials said today.
The first case, as per police, was reported on February 7, 2026, when a complaint was lodged at Police Station Uri by Nasir Ahmed Chalkoo of Uri, stating that unidentified persons had broken into his mobile shop at Choudhary Complex and stolen several mobile phones. FIR No. 12/2026 was registered in this regard.
A day later, police said, another complaint was received regarding the theft of a motorcycle bearing registration number JK01AB-7296 from Sultan Dhaki area of Uri. FIR No. 13/2026 was registered, and investigation was initiated.
During the probe, police said, analysis of CCTV footage and technical evidence led to the identification of the accused as Mohd Safyan, a resident of Uri.
Police said five stolen mobile phones were recovered from Delhi during the investigation.
The accused, police said, was later apprehended from Humhama, Srinagar, on March 10, and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
Subsequently, two more stolen mobile phones were recovered in Srinagar, police said.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused is a habitual offender and is involved in multiple cases across J&K.
