BHADERWAH, Mar 12: Fresh snowfall in Bhaderwah valley on Thursday provided a much-needed boost to the region’s tourism and agriculture sectors, effectively reversing a prolonged dry spell that had threatened economic prospects of the hilly area.

After the dry spell of February which continued even to the first 11 days of March, today the much needed precipitation was there since early in the morning which brought cheers to the locals, especially those associated with tourism industry and agriculture.

The plains of Bhadarwah valley received rainfall since 5 am while fresh snowfall occurred in higher reaches at famous tourist destinations like Guldanda, Chattergalla, Padri, Jatani, Subar Dhar, Kailash Kund, Ashapati and Rehoshra.

According to locals, following a brief winter season with lack of snowfall, March snowfall will hopefully trigger a surge in tourism especially at places like Jaie, Padri, Bhal Padri and Subar Dhar.

The snow-covered landscape, particularly in the areas of Guldanda and Chattargalla, attracted tourists, leading to high occupancy in hotels.

The snowfall has significantly reduced the accumulated rainfall deficit and brought relief to farmers and fruit growers who were concerned about the impact of dry winters on their crops.
