JAMMU, Feb 28: Police today claimed to have arrested a wanted criminal-cum-drug peddler along with his 3 associates from the Miran Sahib area and recovered heroin and an illegal pistol from their possession.
Police said Dilbagh Singh, a resident of Malikpur in Miran Sahib, was apprehended along with Naman Kumar of Nougran, Tehsil Bishnah, and Sandeep Sharma and Sunny Sharma, both residents of Indra Nagar. A Swift car (PB46AL 0415), used by the accused individuals, has also been seized.
According to police, Dilbagh Singh is a history-sheeter with multiple FIRs registered against him at different police stations in Jammu district and outside.
He had earlier completed detention under the PIT NDPS Act and was arrested last year in another NDPS case, police said, adding that he was also wanted in connection with the execution of a PIT NDPS warrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu.
Police said his associates Sandeep and Sunny Sharma also have previous involvement in NDPS cases.
They said that acting on specific information on Feb 27, a team from Police Station Miran Sahib laid a special naka on Ring Road in the Miran Sahib area.
When the Swift car was signalled to stop, police said, the occupants tried to flee by speeding away.
They said the police team, however, intercepted the vehicle after bursting one of its tyres and overpowered the accused.
During the search, 40 grams of heroin-like substance and a pistol with live ammunition were recovered from their possession, they said.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 34/2026 has been registered at Police Station Miran Sahib under relevant sections of the BNS, Arms Act and NDPS Act and further investigation set into motion to trace the wider network involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms supply.
