RAJOURI, Feb 24: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Rajouri Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Tariq Bridge and recovered a commercial quantity of charas from his possession.
According to police sources, a team led by SHO Rajouri Inspector Hilal Azhar intercepted a Maruti S-Presso bearing registration number JK11J-4222 during routine checking.
During the search, approximately 1 kilogram and 400 grams of charas was recovered from the vehicle.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Munir, son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Dandote, Tehsil Budhal in Rajouri district.
He was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used for transporting the contraband was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 84/2026 has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the concerned police station.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
SSP Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, reiterated the district police’s firm resolve to eliminate drug trafficking.
He stated that Rajouri Police are following a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics smuggling and warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
The SSP also urged the public, particularly the youth and their families, to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police by sharing any information related to drug abuse or trafficking.
